The following are ten different ways of saying “black girl” just in case someone needs more than one way of describing themselves:

Black woman or lady Nappy headed black chic African princess My sista from another mista whoopin’ it up with her sidekick lookin’ like she just got back from vacation but not worry cause we readjust our crowns when we need to -Queen of the jungle who’s built like a brick house and she’ll put you on your back if you don’t treat her right My sista from another mista, Black Pearl

Afrocentric goddess in all black with her nose in those books about herself Beautiful little brown girl trying to find herself amongst society’s beauty standards.

Black woman or lady (again) but this time using just one word so it can be used again when needed.

Strong independent female standin’ up for what we believe in even if that means standing alone

A few quotes from other people: “I’m not white enough here and I’m too black there.”  Beyonce Knowles Carter “I was born a black woman, I will die a black woman.” –Maya Angelou

My skin is brown and my hair curls from root to tip in beautiful kinks so why not call me “Black?” (Or Black girl? Or African American?)

And if that’s not enough there are always nicknames like: Brown sugar, chocolate cake on top, caramel delight or sweet potato pie just waiting to be served up on your plate. You’ll never tire of this side dish because it can’t get old! We’re more than one word long so use these words again when you need them too.

And what about the words that we use to describe ourselves? Here are some favorites: black girl magic, Black woman power and Queen. We’re so much more than our skin color!

Black Woman Power

“A uniquely powerful expression of self, which emanates through how a black woman carries herself with grace, strength, and confidence.” (definition from Lisa Knowles)

Queen

“One who has reigned supreme over her domain; one who commands respect” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

This is my advice: think about what you want people to know or remember when they hear those words, and then find new ways to say it.

When I’m feeling uninspired, I like looking up lists of female names from different cultures around the world for inspiration that can give me so many ideas!

Doing this has helped me develop my own personal style and confidence in who I am as a woman. That’s why these hacks work on everyone because we all need help defining ourselves sometimes too

Now go out there and have some fun with your own personal style! Now go out there and find new ways to say what you want people to know or remember when they hear those words! And last but not least, I’ve compiled a list of female names from different cultures around the world for inspiration that can give me so many ideas.
