I can’t stand racism. I’ve always been a straight shooter and will call you out on it as soon as I see or hear about it. It’s so sad that we have to live in such an up-tight place these days, but there are ways to make sure you’re not being racist without even realizing it! Read these tips before doing anything else:
Do your homework – The first step is understanding what different types of discrimination are.
If words like misogyny or cissexism sound foreign, then do some research (and they might be). A good starting point would be reading this article by Everyday Feminism: *Why You Should Stop Using the Word “Sexist” because There Are Wider Forms of Sexism Than Sexism Against Women *Be aware of your words – If you are a member of an oppressed group, it may be easier for you to recognize the subtle ways in which someone might be oppressing another person. You know better than anybody how personal that word is and what negative connotations come with using it. So if somebody doesn’t have your perspective, make sure they’re not using any language that could hurt others *Take responsibility for other people’s actions – No matter who they are or where they came from, nobody knows more about racism then black people do- because we’ve had to live through them our entire lives (and centuries before).
