The American Information Technology Corporation (AITC) is a non-profit corporation formed in 1999 and a private, non-partisan corporation, which is sponsored by the US federal government; it is governed by a board of directors. The mission of the corporation is to advance the US government’s information technology policies and programs. As a nonprofit corporation, the AITC is required to report annual financial statements to the US federal government and to the public.
The AITC is a non-profit corporation which is run by professionals who are selected by and volunteer for their expertise, which includes computer security, computer forensics, computer programming, and the like. The AITC is in turn governed by a board of directors, which includes representatives from government, industry, academia, and the public.
The AITC is the latest incarnation of the earlier AITC Software Services Corporation, a nonprofit corporation which was formed in 1976 as a spinoff from the Department of Defense to assist US government agencies in computer security. It was originally led by a former member of the Defense Department (now the Defense Information Systems Agency), who was eventually forced out by the Pentagon and then returned to the AITC to work on this new venture.
It was also formed in a time in history when government agencies were being slowly dismantled. The AITC was founded to deal with the security problems which would arise if the US government stopped being able to maintain its computer security infrastructure. Most of it was based out of Fort Meade, North Carolina.
It’s also hard for me to separate the various agencies which sit on various levels of government. For example, the AITC has a security level one, a level two, and a level three. Each has its own budget and security personnel and it’s probably because they’re a bit lower that they’re in a slightly different order. Similarly, the US Marshals Service has a higher level than that of the US Customs Service and the US Secret Service and the FBI.
I know that the AITC is responsible for setting up the whole thing, but it was also created and paid for by the Department of Energy as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Also, the AITC is the oldest and most established security agency in the country, so I don’t really know what else to tell you.
It’s the same reason why the NSA is in charge of the entire country. It’s to protect us from foreigners.
I have no idea what AITC does, but I am sure it is a lot more than what the current government is trying to do. I’ll let you decide whether it’s worth being concerned about.
