The Boston public schools are known for their education and scholarship opportunities and I’m proud to say I got an internship at the City Trust. I was one of four interns from the Boston School of Public Health and Community Health (SPHCH) who were all part of the SPHCH’s first summer internship program at the Boston Public Health Commission in Boston.
I was a Boston School of Public Health and Community Health SPHCH intern from the first-ever Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) summer intern program. I got my start in Boston by working on the SPHCHs first summer research internship program at the BPHC as an intern in June of 2014. I was fortunate enough to be mentored by Dr. Jennifer Jones who is a tenured professor with the Boston Public Health and Community Health SPHCH.
The BPHC summer intern program was designed to help community health centers across the city recruit and retain a diverse group of student interns in order to complete their field research projects. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to intern with the Boston SPHCH and I couldn’t be more excited to learn more about the work, learn more about the city of Boston, and gain real-world experience working with community health centers.
I’m not only excited about working with the Boston SPHCH, I’m also super pumped about the fact that I’ll be able to attend the Boston Public Health Symposium in September. This event is a lot more than just giving speeches, but they are also a great opportunity to meet with faculty, go on field trips, and have conversations about what you’re learning in school. In a perfect world, the Symposium would be a great way to learn more about yourself and the field.
The Boston SPHCH is a really small, close-knit group of about 50 health centers across the city. A lot of these centers are serving a rural or underserved community, and it might be a good idea to think about working with a community health center in Boston if you live in that area. This is something that I have talked about to my friends about and they are really excited about it.
I am a bit nervous about starting a summer internship at a health center. My resume at this time is full of internships from university, but I am not sure I’d be able to stand in front of a group of people and show them how I would handle a real job. The Symposium is a small group of people, so it’s easy to do a quick check of the groups you want to join and you’ll want to include more senior people.
In my opinion, the most important thing in working at the most senior level of a health center is being able to think like a senior person. You know the type of people that work at the health center, so your resume includes their job title and experience. I want to include as much information as I can about the people I know who work at the health center. The best way to do this is to get a sense of how you would deal with a senior person.
I’ve been asked how I would deal with a senior person, and I was asked this question a while ago. My first impulse is to tell them to piss off, but I’m also open to what’s appropriate. I might tell them to stop with the attitude that their boss is the boss. After all, this person is likely to be a little more senior than everyone else is.
I think some people will be a little pissed off, but I think it’s important to remember that no matter what your company’s policy is, there are people who are just doing their job. I know the people who work at the health center because I was one of them. I’ve had to deal with that kind of person before, and I think it’s important to remember that these people have just put themselves in an unsafe position.
We’ve all had that experience, or at least one of those situations where we were suddenly, suddenly put in a position that we didn’t know how to handle. And even though it’s not your boss, its one of those things that no matter what your boss says theres going to be someone there who is going to find a way to get you fired.
