The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.
If we think about it, we often think about it. We think about something and we start thinking about it again and again. We often repeat a thought or an action over and over, and we have learned that repeating a thought or action over and over eventually gets us to actually do it. The way we learn is we practice it by doing it. We practice it by thinking about it and then practicing doing it.
One of those things that I’ve found to be helpful is just being aware of a habit, routine, impulse, or reaction that is a little bit new to you. By being aware of it, it seems that you can actually start to do it, which seems pretty great. It’s also one of the things that I’ve found to be fairly effective in helping people become more aware of their habits, routines, impulses, and reactions.
Another thing we try to do is practice seeing the big picture in regards to our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. It is a tough thing to do. You don’t want to end up going “oh God, I just got an email from the bank. I’m going to have to go to work. I’m going to have to take out a loan.
When we are trying to practice the big picture, we want to remember that this is not our life. We are just a guy on Deathloop’s party island, sitting like a king, watching the most beautiful women in the world dance to the music he’s listening to, and trying to figure out what to do about it.
The thing about routines, impulse, and reaction is that we dont always have control of them. We don’t always know what will happen before we do it. We dont always know what we will get. It is, in general, difficult to remember that there is no such thing as “doing it without thinking”. We want to believe that this is our life, but that is not always the case. We want to believe that this is simply a part of our daily life.

Yes but that’s what you get when you buy a diamond. You want to believe that this is simply a part of your everyday life.
If you really want to believe that this is your life, you can, but then you’ve got to accept that there is a lot more going on than you could ever know. There are a lot of people out there who will tell you that they are living the life they want to live and nothing more.
