Marble is a very hard stone to marble with acrylic paint (I use the same colors for any surface that is hard). I find that using a brush works best to get the paint on the marble, but it’s much easier (and more foolproof) to use a roller. I will often mix up the colors to match the color of the marble.
So what you’re doing is using acrylic paint to color the marble and then letting it dry; the paint will stick to the marble and you can then scrape it off with a dry brush. The problem with this is that the paint will stick to everything it touches, so you’ll end up with a big mess on the floor, which will require you to either scrub it off or have someone else scrub it.

You can also use the same technique to clean up your existing marble floors, though it will take a while to do so. For that, you’ll need to hire a professional.

When I was new to painting marble, I found out that marble floors are not paintable because the base color of marble is white and the under-coat is purple.
Marble floors are not easy to paint. Even if you’ve got the right base color and the right under-coat, you may not be able to get the marble to match. I’m not sure if you can even get marble floors painted to be compatible with your existing paint. In my opinion, I’d go ahead and paint the existing marble floor right now, but try not to use the same base color as your existing paint.
Marble floors are painted with a water based acrylic paint. It’s a semi-opaque finish and the color is actually quite subtle. To get marble floors to look good, your best bet is to use a water based acrylic paint with a base color that is a bit deeper, something like Ivory White. The other thing to remember is that marble floors are not painted on top of the existing base color.
