I think it’s important to realize that even though I’m an avid painter and even though I’m a fan of miniaturizing for decorating, I’m not a fan of the kits themselves. They’re not that different from any other kits out there, except perhaps in shape. They’re not cheap, and they don’t have to be.
I can see why they’d be expensive and I have a personal problem with them, but I don’t see the fun in them. Theyre just another box to put together and you’ll probably use them once or twice, and then they’ll sit abandoned in a drawer or cupboard for the rest of your life.
To be fair, the kits are very affordable. Ive gotten mine from a local hobby shop for $5.00, and thats pretty cheap by the way. Theyre not cheap to buy, but theyre not as expensive to make as the kits. You get the same amount of play time and build time, though you can easily make more with the kits (like a mini-piggy with a mini-gun).
And theyre not made of plastic. To be safe, you should try and avoid kits made of anything that will melt away or damage your toy.
The kits are made by a company called CTMG. They produce the kits for several companies, most of which have their own kits. Like a lot of companies, they don’t take credit for their work, and they often use a lot of subcontractors in their manufacturing process. So it’s difficult to say with certainty if they have any involvement in the actual product.
