It’s very common that our devices have to be manually disabled or disabled by the user. Some of these devices run on the kernel level, and can be easily disabled, such as the touch screen. Many of these devices will also display warnings such as “do not touch” or “do not use”.
We’ve come across many devices that have been disabled by the user, but usually these are done in ways that are not very obvious. For instance, when you click a touch screen, you may not be aware that you’re disallowing the touch screen to work. You may be only aware that you’re disallowing the touch screen to work when you accidentally touch the touch screen while you were using it. This could be especially common in older versions of Windows.
A better way for a user to find out that they are disallowing a device would be to disable the device, or to go to their operating system’s settings and disable the device there. And that’s all it takes on Windows XP. For Windows 7, the best way to find out you are disallowing a device would be to go to the Device Manager, which is usually on the Start menu.
The touch screen might not be the biggest issue, but it can still be a concern. And the worst way to find out that you’ve got a touch screen on your device is to accidentally touch it with your phone. That’s what happens to millions of us every single day.
I had a friend who had his phone screen touch with her phone so much that she had to take it out of her pocket and hide it under her desk. But the same thing can happen to you when you use a computer. I mean, if youre using the computer to play some game, you don’t want to have your screen touch the edge of the screen. You want to be able to press a key and have it be the only way to turn on the computer.
If it sounds like something out of a horror movie, well, it is. But the technology is actually pretty scary and has been around for some time. In the early 1990s, a programmer named David Zwicker figured out a way to disable the execute bit of the Windows operating system on an ancient computer. But to disable this bit of the operating system, you need to know the keystroke combinations, and those are often hard to remember.
So what are the key combinations? When you press the Alt key, you press and hold the space bar. When you press the Spacebar, you press the Alt key. This is great because you can just type the first letter in a search and hit Enter without even getting to the keyboard. But the problem is that if your keyboard has a built-in keyboard mapping, that means you won’t be able to use this feature until Windows 10 actually launches the operating system.
The solution is to disable the “execute bit” of the operating system. You can do this by going to Control Panel, then Programs, and then System updates. Then you’ll see a list of recent updates that include “Disable execute bit” and the word “Disable”. Then click the “Disable” button and you’re good to go.
The execution bit allows a program to run without a user being able to terminate it. So if your computer is running a program that needs to access the internet, and that program needs to execute, then you can use this feature and the program will be able to run on your computer, but only if you’re logged in as the user that the program needs to have full access to.
If you run an executable file in the “run” (run as) bit, you can tell it to skip the wait for user input until it has access to the internet and then kill itself. This feature is often used for things like torrent clients, and lets you easily disable programs that have a “run” bit.
