For some time now, General Grievous has been hacking up a storm and nobody knows why. This blog post will explore the possible reasons behind his persistent coughing.
One reason for his coughing could be that he suffers from cystic fibrosis.
According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder characterized by abnormal production of mucus and thickened bronchial secretions which result in impaired lung function. General Grievous might have contracted this disease when was still with the Jedi Order as it is more common among those who are Caucasian or Asian-American than other races. However, there’s no evidence to back up this theory.
Another possible explanation would be asthma; another respiratory condition that leads to difficulty breathing due to inflammation and constriction of airways so often found in asthmatics like General Grievous [link].
The truth is, no one knows for sure. It’s possible the coughs are a result of General Grieveous’ age or an allergic reaction to something he ate. He could also be experiencing some kind of pulmonary disease such as bronchitis which would explain his coughing spells and make it difficult for him to breathe while standing up straight. Another theory suggests that there may be scarring on his lungs from years of smoking cigarettes (or whatever else).
General Grievous has never been seen without wearing full body armor so this might play into the difficulty breathing during physical activity due to tightness in the chest area caused by his weight being supported by rigid metal plates.[end of paragraph] General Grieve is an SGI
He has a very important job in the Empire: he kills Jedi.
As such, it’s of paramount importance for him to be healthy and strong. The Sith are obsessed with living forever, so they have all sorts of concoctions that keep them alive longer than any other person might expect given their lifestyle choices. This includes ingesting large amounts of spice into his lungs which act as both stimulant and sedative at once giving him “the edge” against opponents who may not appreciate this tactic or even know about what the Sith see as tactical advantages over time.
