And a wooden fireplace mantel is great for a simple kitchen too.
If you’re a wood fiend, be careful that you don’t damage your hardwood floor by using it to build your wall art. It’s very unlikely you will get a beautiful wall art from a wall where you used your wood for that purpose.

A new kitchen cabinet can be achieved by using a custom made cabinet from a cabinetmaker and a woodworking store like Home Depot. And a wood fireplace mantel can be achieved by reusing a new wood fireplace mantel that was just bought at a local home improvement store.
I’m sure I’m missing some of the obvious, but I think the most important thing that a wood countertop is, is the quality of the grain. A wood countertop will have a grain that looks as nice as the real thing. And if you do your woodwork right, you can achieve that same quality without spending a ton of money either.
If you want to have the exact look of an old wood countertop, you can start with a really nice one. A nice piece of solid oak, fir, cedar, walnut, cherry, mahogany, etc., will turn out beautiful and look as good as the real thing. There are lots of other things you can do to achieve that look. For example, you can paint over it. Or you can stain it. Or you can refinish it.
You can even try adding a little bit of stain and natural oils to your countertop. It’s a good idea to invest in a good stain for your countertop, though. A nice stain will last a long time, but it also will hold up well, and you can even refinish it.
Of course, if you want to do something more dramatic you can buy the real thing and do it yourself. But don’t forget that what looks good on your countertop can be a hell of a lot of money.
