The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when were on autopilot for so long that we forget were on autopilot. Because when were not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them we control us. Whereas a person with self-awareness is able to exercise a little meta-cognition and say, “Hmm… every time my sister calls me and asks for money, I end up drinking a lot of vodkas.
This is the ultimate problem. We have so many things going on in our lives that we really don’t have time to think about it. We’re stressed out enough, having to deal with the problems of the day, and taking care of our kids. We don’t have time to think about the consequences of how we’re acting. We don’t have time to think about how much we really care about what other people think.
I’m not saying that people should just let their actions control their thoughts and emotions, but I do think that there’s a difference between having the time to think about the consequences of your actions and having the time to reflect on them. Most of us have enough problems with our immediate lives that we spend very little time thinking about the consequences of our actions. The best thing to do is to take action, to be proactive and not just react to something that we are already trying to deal with.
The thing is, while there is a difference between having the time to think about the consequences and having the time to reflect on them, there is a difference in the amount of time. Because while it can take a long time for us to reflect on our actions, it only takes around 10 seconds for us to act on them.
10 seconds is a long time, but in a way it’s the perfect amount of time. No action, no reflection. No problems, no regrets.
It has been said that to act on things we have trouble with, we need to have the time to think about the consequences of our actions. When we have this time, we can have the tools to act, but we don’t need to think about what it is we are going to do. We can decide to do a certain thing and take the time to reflect on it.
Technology is like weed. It’s a plant. It takes a bit of time getting used to the various aspects of it. It takes a bit of time for the various components to connect and work together. But once we have the idea, we can get it to do what we want.
I think I like this quote, because I think it’s so true. I see technology now as a powerful tool, and a very useful tool, but I don’t see it being used too much. I think it’s because we humans have the ability to make our technology work for us. We have the ability to make it work for us when we think about it. We have the ability to make it work all the time.
In the last few years we’ve seen the rise of a new kind of technology, a kind that we call data processing. This is the age of apps, of computer programs, of the internet, of all of the electronic devices that we use on a daily basis. Its this age of technology, of data processing that has made it that much easier for us to interact with one another. The more we can connect, the better. And the more connected we are, the better.
