I’ve been a book worm since I was a teenager. I grew up reading books by authors such as Margaret Atwood, John Irving, and Cormac McCarthy, who I devoured in my teens and early 20’s. I read a lot since I was in my 20’s, which included a lot of mystery novels.
I wrote my first book, a teen book about a girl named Julia, in fifth and sixth grade. I also wrote my very first book about a boy named Will, whom I knew from high school. I wrote my first book about a young girl named Chloe, and I wrote my first book about a young boy named Charlie, who was the son of a very famous novelist, who was also the father of my two very famous sister writers.
I’ve been writing a lot of adult fiction at various points in my life. I’ve written for several years in the ‘70s, when I was in my teens and early 20s. I wrote a lot of mystery novels, too, and a few noir novels, but I didn’t write books about my two sisters until my late twenties.
For a long time I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, and I was pretty much just doing what I wanted to do and doing it well. I wrote three mystery novels in that time period, and I did a bunch of nonfiction, mostly focusing on how to write and edit fiction, and how to get it published. I started writing about writing in college, and that kind of grew into nonfiction. But mostly, I wrote fiction.
I think that writing fiction was probably my first professional writing job, and I’m glad I did it. It gave me a base of stuff to work with, and it enabled me to learn how to write nonfiction.
I also wrote a bunch of nonfiction, including one called Writing the Nonfiction Self-Editing Guide. It is a compilation of advice from writers who have been published in the nonfiction world. It’s an interesting read, and I hope it helps you write better nonfiction if you ever need to.
As a writer, I’m glad I wrote fiction, because I think fiction was a good writing medium for me; I’d rather read my own work than a book I’ve read. In nonfiction I feel the need to explain everything and I’m not good at it, so I’ve learned that it’s better to just tell a story instead of trying to explain everything.
Writing novels, I think it is an excellent medium for you to tell a story, because you can tell it from beginning to end, and it will be much more interesting. As an example, if you were writing fiction and wanted to explain something, you would have to do a lot of writing in that context to explain about the world, and that is how I feel you should probably do it.
Writing novels? I love that idea! That is one of those things that I’m still learning about, but I think it is a great medium for you to use. You can tell it from beginning to end, and it will be much more interesting. As an example, if you were writing fiction and wanted to explain something, you would have to do a lot of writing in that context to explain about the world, and that is how I feel you should probably do it.
Although we do have to do a little bit of writing ourselves, especially in the beginning, you don’t need to do a lot of writing in the end. You can still explain things, but it’s much more interesting and enjoyable in that context. One of the things that I love about writing is the fact that I can focus more on one aspect of a topic, and have a much better idea of the overall story than I would in a speech.
