Hot cocoa is a pretty simple drink. The first step is to pour hot water into a mug and then fill it with hot cocoa. Stir in a little sugar and milk and you are done. I like to mix up a cup of milk and sugar with a cup of hot cocoa for a fun hot cocoa, and it is a great way to enjoy a hot drink when you are feeling lazy.
The thing about hot cocoa is it doesn’t have the same complexity of a cup of tea. That means that I’ve had to invent the art of making hot cocoa out of my own ingenuity. Today I whipped up a batch of hot cocoa to try to make myself feel less guilty about spending a little time making tea instead of drinking it. The original recipe came from the best cocoa maker in the world, The Master of Ceremonies at Café Boulud. Chef-la-la Boulud did a fantastic job of making a really great hot cocoa.2.
The second recipe came from the “Gourmand” at the local French cafe that makes a gourmet version of the original recipe. Chef-la-la was also great.3. The third recipe is a little more involved but also involves some really nice things like milk chocolate, caramel, and caramelized apple.
And finally, I’d like to give a shout out to the new flavor at the LaSalle in downtown Chicago. The first time I tried one of their new flavors, I was shocked and then I was totally excited.
