There’s nothing like the look of a new toy or cute animal to get us to actually play with it. You see, miniature animals are incredibly complicated to make. With most of them you don’t even have a set number of steps to take, which is why you’re often disappointed when your dog or cat gets too excited and tries to bite your finger.
But we have a new toy for you today. It’s a miniature animal that can be made in four simple steps. I’ll explain how it works.
The first step is to take a clay model and put it in water. You don’t need to have a camera or digital image to make this, just some water. The second step is to press the clay model into the water, making it harder and harder to remove. The third step is to dip the clay model in a special fluid that slowly removes the clay, leaving behind a small, but noticeable, amount of metal. Finally, the fourth step is to cut and polish the metal.
My wife was horrified when I told her I was making a toy dog out of clay. “Why would you do that to a dog?” she asked. I had to explain the process to her, so here goes. Take a dog, put it in water, and then press it down. It will be very hard to take apart. But if you wait long enough, you can actually make a dog.

We’ve all heard of the clay model, but I have to wonder if there’s something about it that makes it not so attractive to some. If I can make a dog, why can’t I make a chicken? What makes these clay models more appealing than the actual thing? The answer is that there’s no real story to tell, other than a bunch of random facts about the dogs and the chickens.
