It seems pretty cool on the surface, but it’s also pretty obvious that the Chengdu team is trying to go one step further and take advantage of copper’s properties to develop an interconnect that’s not just between two chips.
As we know, the term is somewhat misleading as copper is not a single material, but more in the nature of a family of different materials. It’s a wide variety of materials whose properties can be tailored to specific needs and purposes. For example, the properties of copper can be used to make wires and pads used for interconnects. However, the copper itself is not used for interconnects, but rather as an electrical conductor.
