This is a fun project! Styrofoam is one of those things that seems to have homeowners pretty stumped. I think it is because painting your home is one of those things if you get wrong, you can’t really hide it. Painting your home, you would think would eliminate the paint stress, but it can actually be the very thing that causes it. Among the many decisions that a new homeowner has to make during construction, choosing paint colors can be the most difficult.
Painting your home is one of those decisions that can be a real headache, especially if you want to paint your new home yourself. The beauty of painting is that it’s relatively easy to start, and very difficult to stop. For the best results, you will need to spend the equivalent of a decade of your life on a project that is both labor intensive and expensive. On the plus side, you are also likely to find a number of very talented painters who have decades of experience.
Unfortunately, styrofoam paint is no longer the easiest material to work with. It tends to dry out quickly, and the resulting paint doesn’t have the longevity of acrylic paints. You can work around that, but unless you do a lot of work, you will spend a lot of time trying to get everything just right.
That said, there are many talented painters out there who will try their hand at this material. My favorite example is the late, great Steve Barbe. He started off the styrofoam world painting with a simple black background followed by a large, glossy, dark color. Then he added a few little touches to give it a “vintage” feel. He would then use a brush to blend the black and dark color into the glossy, dark surface.
At this point, just as much as I’m enjoying the look of this mold I’m also getting a bit worried about that guy with the black and white mustache and the shiny teeth. Steve Barbe would have been a very effective way to add a little bit of this mold to his styrofoam, but now it’s a little early to start worrying about that.
You are right Steve, it really is a little early. Steve Barbe is a great name for mold. He was the first mold. And you have to remember that there are a lot of mold types that are very similar. Steve Barbe could have easily been just a regular ordinary mold without the mustache or the teeth.
I wonder if the mustache and the teeth are actually just the mold. I wonder if Steve Barbe is just a regular ordinary mold and just hiding his mustache for some reason. That would explain why the mold is so similar to him.
Steve Barbe is a mold made from the same stuff as styrofoam. He’s an extra-strong, light-weight, inexpensive plastic that can be molded into any shape you want and made to take on almost any color you want. While a lot of people have been trying to replicate the process in the past, the only mold in existence that is capable of that is Steve Barbe.
Steve Barbe is just a regular ordinary mold, but one that really isn’t meant to be. Its purpose is so that people can create a “mold” of their own. For example, people can make one with a car engine. This mold is made from a plastic that can take on different colors and forms on its own. It contains no electronics. And with a little math, you can have a mold that is just the same plastic as a styrofoam mold.
Its purpose is to be a regular mold, but one that isnt intended to be used for any specific purpose. The real purpose of styrofoam is to make a mold that is a good fit for the things it is meant to be used for. The mold is not meant to be used for anything else.
