When we digest food our stomach breaks down carbs and sugars with enzymes from hydrochloric acid made in an organ called the pancreas. This process not only makes digestion possible for nutrients like proteins, fats and carbohydrates but also helps to break down alcohol. As your stomach starts breaking down the food, it sends messages of hunger and satisfaction to the brain telling us that we are hungry or full. When you eat before drinking, this usually slows digestion because there is less room for food in your stomach.
By slowing digestion-you’ll have more time passing as enzymes do their job on sugars and carbs which will help with BAC levels since these foods can absorb some of the ethanol from our bloodstream when they come into contact with them!
